Holly, tell us the story of your business

My business was the unplanned product of a couple really difficult decisions, a lot of trust, and a necessary turning point in my life. After graduating from CSU in 2020, with no work, a lot of free time, and a passion for women's organizations, I began volunteering for a small nonprofit focused on anti human trafficking that worked with survivors. In an odd turn of events, this led to me managing a salon at the same time in Wellington. After working in Wellington for over two years, I began feeling like I was outgrowing my current position, both opportunity wise and as an identity fit.
My coworker-turned-best-friend and I made the choice to leave. We had no plan but knew it was the right choice, and it turns out we were right! A building just down the street from our previous job became available for rent and my friend, an extremely talented nail technician, decided that that was a sign, and the next move. Her boldness and bravery launched me into my own. Actually, the turning point that made me pull the trigger to start a business was the first purchase I made for the shop. My friend had found a bundle of brown paper bags at the thrift store and sent me a photo, so I went and bought them. Which meant I had shopping bags, and no store for people to fill them with goodies from. I had to fix that problem. It seems so silly looking back, but it was the tiny push and sign I needed. I had management, retail, and small business experience, and Google by my side. Once I had decided to create a business, our doors were open only six weeks later. Nearly three years later, here we are! My friend, Tedde Bellmore, owns her own salon, The Nail Gem Studio, here in the same building. We absolutely love the space we've created. It has been such a blessing to have my best friend by my side on this journey, having started businesses together, and getting to work and grow together every day. (Don't worry we will be introducing you to The Nail Gem soon)
What sets Rose & Co Apart?

My business is unique in what it offers combined with its overall vibe and image, especially here in Wellington. While our large variety of houseplants are one of my favorite parts of the shop, we offer much, much more. When you enter the shop, you are greeted by bright colors in the form of home goods, crystals, funky jewelry, and unique gifts. As you move into the next room, you will find our plant shop, filled with greenery and sun from the skylights, and of course plant care items and accessories. Finally, as you make your way to the third and final section of the shop, you are in the apothecary area where we have herbs, local honey, essential oils, books, and more self-care items.
This space also includes a DIY area where we host crafts and classes, including a themed one every month for our Mingle on Main event. We've got something for everyone, and something new every week.
Why do you love living and working in the Northern Colorado community?
I have lived in Northern Colorado for almost 8 years, and I still find new things to love about it all the time. I make it a mission to check out a new business as often as possible on my days off. I have worked in Wellington for nearly six years, and lived here for just over one. I love my little community down here. My shop is on Main Street in Historic Old Town, and my home is just a couple blocks away. I also work at a wonderful brewery just a block from my shop, Old Colorado Craft Tasting Room. My home and my work are all within walking distance, with a little park separating them. I feel so fortunate to be part of such a hardworking, fun downtown community, and I look forward to growing with them, and Wellington, in the years to come.
If your business had a personality, how would you describe it?

My business's personality is fun-loving and kind, but also fierce. She's always up for an adventure, and loves meeting new people. She believes that the more color, the better.
What makes you passionate about what you do, and why?
I grew up in a very small town, and downtown Wellington is pretty tiny. Since opening the shop, I've realized how important it is to have, and be, a bright spot for people who might not have it otherwise. The shop has created the opportunity and the space to foster community, which is so, so important to me. Rose & Co is really an extension of myself and who I am, and I get to share it with others, while hopefully encouraging them to be a little more themselves, too.

Rose & Co. Is one of my most favorite shops in NoCo. The best unique plant selection and variety store. ❤️
