Brushes & Blades (Palette Knives): Beginner Acrylic Painting Class
Join us for a fun and welcoming beginner acrylic class where we’ll create a beautiful landscape using both brushes and blades (palette knives). This class is designed for new painters who want to explore acrylic painting in an approachable, relaxed way while learning how to build color, texture, and depth.

Students will be guided step by step through the painting process, from blocking in the composition to adding highlights, texture, and finishing details. We’ll use brushes for softer blended areas and blades (palette knives) for bold, expressive texture that brings the painting to life. This class is a great introduction to basic acrylic techniques while also giving students the freedom to enjoy the creative process.

All materials are included. Children are welcome to participate when accompanied by an enrolled adult. No experience is necessary.

“An Iris Wild,” a powerful short film about addiction and survival, plus “About a Fix,” a feature pitch video.

Join us on May 20th, Wednesday, at the Magic Rat Film Showcase for an evening featuring “An Iris Wild,” a gripping short film and work in progress from Northern Colorado filmmaker Benjamin Hess.

Happy Hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by the screening at 7 p.m. and a live Q&A with the writer/director, producer, and actor following the films.

“An Iris Wild” follows Iris, a 25-year-old woman struggling with addiction as she navigates one dangerous night that could ultimately determine the course of her future. Raw, emotional, and deeply human, the story explores vulnerability, survival, and the difficult road toward recovery.

The evening will also include “About a Fix,” a behind-the-scenes pitch video for the upcoming feature film inspired by “An Iris Wild.” Filmmaker Benjamin Hess and producer Elizabeth Mihelich discuss the development process, future plans for the feature, and their vision for expanding the story. The video also features acclaimed cinematographer Sarah Winters, who is attached to the project.

Following the screenings, guests will hear directly from the creative team during a live Q&A conversation about the filmmaking process, storytelling, and building independent films in Colorado.

Get reacquainted with reading in a space where all books count, and with a pool party to celebrate. Registration and participation is FREE!

Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, reading stopped feeling like a reward and started feeling like one more thing on the list. The books are still there — on the nightstand, on the shelf, in the app you downloaded and forgot about — but the time and the motivation are harder to come by.

So we built AllReads.

AllReads is a free summer reading program for adults in Northern Colorado, inspired by the Book It spirit and built for grown-up life. The premise is exactly as simple as you remember: sign up, read your books, earn your reward. Except this time the reward is a pool party, the books are whatever you want, and nobody is going to quiz you at the end.

Here's how it works. Sign up for free. Read 3 books between May 21st and August 13th. Log them on your bookmark. Show up to our end-of-summer pool party celebration(without the kids). That's the whole thing.

Any book counts. The beach read you've been saving. The thriller your sister won't stop talking about. The self-help book you've started four times. The fantasy series you're embarrassed to admit you love. All of it counts. We built this for people who used to be readers and want to be again — no pressure, no judgment, just the quiet pleasure of getting lost in a good book this summer.

All Reads is brought to you by locals Empowered Path Occupational Therapy, The Crowded Bookshelf, Maven & Muse Media and a team that believes your brain deserves the same care and joy it got back when a personal pan pizza felt like the greatest reward on earth.

3 books. Any books. All summer.

Sign Up Free — it takes 2 minutes

See you at the pool.

With love, The All Reads Team Katy, Jade, Renee

All Reads runs May 21 – August 13, 2026 in Northern Colorado. Free to join. Open to all adults.

Grant Farm, a long-time Fort Collins favorite, is reuniting for a special tour to celebrate guitarist/founder Tyler Grant’s 50th birthday. First stop is the Aggie Theatre, with an opening set by Violet Pilot, who’s lead singer, Michael Kirkpatrick, is a member of Pickin’ On The Dead along w Tyler, Ace & Sean from Grant Farm. Michael recently sold out the Armory & Pickin’ On The Dead had a big night at the Aggie in February w their special guest Andy Thorn.

Grant Farm was established in 2010 by guitarist/vocalist Tyler "The Champ" Grant, a National Flatpicking Champion and former member of the Emmitt/Nershi Band, Adrienne Young and Little Sadie, and Abigail Washburn. The original lineup featured Andy Thorn (Leftover Salmon) and Keith Moseley (String Cheese Incident). Bassist/vocalist Adrian "ACE" Engfer, a veteran of West-Coast touring groups Hot Soup and Dukes of Ted, joined in 2011, just in time for the band's eponymous debut album, released in 2012 on Grant Central Records. Drummer Sean "Magic" Macaulay signed on in 2013 after touring the world with Donovan Frankenreiter, bringing a new energy and refined sound, as heard on the sophomore release Plowin' Time (2014). The final piece of the cohesive Grant Farm unit of today was the addition of keyboardist/vocalist Kevin "Money" McHugh, a popular dueling piano entertainer and session musician. Kevin's pitch-perfect singing solidified the vocal trio with Tyler and Adrian, and the meteoric evolution of Sean's songwriting, along with the other three established composers, were the elements that crystallized into a true collective where the whole exceeds the sum of the parts.

Hard work and ambition are key elements of the Grant Farm ethos, as are love, community, and connection, which the band describes as "Farmily". A landmark collaboration with the band Fruition spawned the Meeting On the Mountain EP (2014), which included the campfire classic "Meet Me On The Mountain", a co-write between Fruition's Jay Cobb Anderson and Tyler Grant. This theme was so intriguing that the band created their own video broadcast series, The Meeting on the Mountain LIVE Broadcast, which aired eleven episodes between 2015 and 2018, and resulted in Grant Farm's stellar 2018 album Meeting On The Mountain LIVE, Vol.1, a collection of the finest performances from the broadcast series, featuring musical guests such as Todd Sheaffer (Railroad Earth), Andy Hall (Infamous Stringdusters), Megan Burtt, Reed Foehl, and John Magnie (Subdudes).

So that's who Grant Farm is, but what do they sound like? You'll have to listen to find out, but the genre bending outfit has developed the tag "Cosmic Americana" to appease curious definers. With firm grounding in American Roots Music (especially Rock and Roll), a skilled and seasoned air of professionality, a bent ear to the spirit of the fresh and new and a keen interest in the divine, Grant Farm has created their own unique sound which has helped them build a strong following of Farmily across the country. Years of touring the Festival and Club circuit, along with real life joy, hardship, and tragedy, has brought this band of brothers as close as kin. Togetherness brings greatness, as is built into the band name - a light-hearted spin on the industrious "Ant Farm".

"This Quartet has found its own sound in the seams between Country, Bluegrass and Rock and Roll" - Jim Lauderdale

"They had three guys who sang impressive lead vocals. The songs were really good. Grant Farm headlining Red Rocks on a mountain summer night? It ought to happen and I’d buy a ticket." - Craig Havighurst (Review of Music City Roots Performance November 2016)

Nathaniel Riley - Fort Collins, CO

A defining characteristic of Fort Collins singer-songwriter Nathaniel Riley is that he writes and plays for the sake of the song. Period. In this, he is entirely focused and you can hear that intent. His music is thoughtful, sometimes sparse and sometimes lush in its soundscape. The beauty that Riley and his intensely talented collective produced in Bird Songs is the musical reminder that hope and light always shine through times of adversity. https://nathanielrileymusic.com

===
Darren Garvey - Milwaukee, WI

For Darren Garvey, songs come from somewhere – an instrument, the confluence of two rivers, a scribble in his daughter’s sketchbook. With an overarching theme in his music of finding positivity in times of unrest, he has followed the call from one great musical collaboration to the next. Darren is well-loved for passionately supporting artists in the indie-pop and folk scene for over 20 years as a multi-instrumentalist and producer. https://darrengarvey.com

Sydney Clapp - Denver, CO

With an eclectic creative spirit, Sydney Clapp’s sonic pulse carries her through a wide range of sounds as she writes music. Songs shaped by her naturally introspective view of the world bend with her haunting and breathy vocals. While Sydney’s music falls somewhere between psychedelic, experimental folk, and indie rock, it is ever-evolving as she continues to follow her authentic inspiration; exploring new sounds and bending genres with each release. https://sydneyclapp.com

Sunshine Only Sometimes: Archives Vol. 2, 1972-1975 continues Anthology Recordings' excavation, and exploration, of southern singer, songwriter, and psychedelic serviceman Robert Lester Folsom's bountiful archives. Recorded across Georgia in various bedrooms, a barn, and a motel room with a reel-to-reel and a revolving cast of whip smart studio musicians in the first half of a dazed and confused decade, Sunshine Only Sometimes furthers Folsom's place in the canon of long lost but eventually found independently spirited, high-flying American folk rock. When Anthology's reissue of Music and Dreams, the sole contemporaneous album released in 1976 by Folsom, surfaced in 2010, little else was known of Folsom's nearly five-decade deep archive of unreleased demos and fully formed studio recordings. Born and raised in Adel, Georgia — both then, and now, a sleepy hamlet with a population of less than 5,000 — Folsom was fortunate to be minded after extremely supportive parents. Exhibiting a precocious affinity for music, things went widescreen when he observed the same ferry from 'cross the Mersey as many others of his generation, carrying the four musical moptops to their paradigm shifting appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Soon thereafter, Folsom began religiously absorbing every morsel of musical output The Fab Four offered, as well as that of their contemporaries. Yet, it wasn't long before observation transformed into a motivation to create. Even a children's record player bought by his parents as a gift to him was traded off to a neighborhood friend for a stringless, disheveled guitar (which Folsom's father shined to prime and function for him in short order). As time went on, Folsom's innate drive and field of vision broadened; he began enlisting neighborhood friends, classmates, and family members to fulfill his small-scale musical dreams, which would increase in weight with the passage of days. Sunshine Only Sometimes offers up another sterling set of tonally-shifting, sub-underground, alternate timeline classic rock. The C&W-influenced, sprightly-pop of George Harrison — whose Dark Horse Records is one of a handful of record companies Folsom and VanBrackle submitted demos to — is invoked in the uber-melodic "Ease My Mind." "Julie" brings to mind Nixon-era ragged 'n' ramshackled country-blues from the Glimmer Twins' pen, and the semi-acoustic, heavily-flanged, out-of-time psych-pop of "Lonely Lovers" sits somewhere between a forward-looking glimpse at Music and Dreams and a demo from a would-be Cosmic American Music king. Perhaps it was Robert and company's playing "weird spacey stuff and ballads," as guitarist VanBrackle describes, in small town Georgia skating rinks, bowling alleys, and school dances expecting Top 40 dance-ready hits which held them down. Perhaps it was simply location. Though, the music of Sunshine Only Sometimes is composed of an intrinsic ability to hear the music truly playing, as opposed to the space in air heard by the lay-ear, which places Folsom's music in a timeless space primed for perennial (re)discovery.

Drunken Hearts & Friends take over the Festgarten at Wibby Brewing on May 22nd, bringing together an amazing lineup including Andy Thorn (Leftover Salmon), Steve Berlin (Los Lobos), and Dan Andree (Clay Street Unit) with Lauren Nershi (daughter of Bill Nershi of String Cheese Incident) opening the night.

This evening is more than a show, it’s a fundraiser for the band’s new album, produced by multi-Grammy winner Steve Berlin. Berlin's long list of producer credits include String Cheese Incident "Outside & Inside," Greensky Bluegrass "Shouted, Written Down, & Quoted," Leftover Salmon "Aquatic Hitchhiker," and many, many more.

One night of tunes, a stacked lineup, and a chance to catch Drunken Hearts right before their next chapter breaks wide open.

FRIENDS:

VERY SPECIAL GUEST:Andy Thorn (Leftover Salmon)

A longtime presence in the Colorado scene, he’s known for combining technical precision with an easygoing, improvisational feel both on stage and in his solo work.Steve Berlin (Los Lobos)
Steve Berlin is a saxophonist, keyboardist, and multi-Grammy winning member of Los Lobos, a band renowned for its genre-spanning blend of rock, Tex-Mex, blues, and traditional Mexican music. In addition to his role in the group, he’s a highly respected producer whose work has influenced a wide range of roots and alternative artists.Dan Andree (Clay Street Unit / The Fretliners)
Dan Andree is a fiddle player known for his work with Clay Street Unit and formerly The Fretliners, bringing a high-energy, improvisational voice to modern bluegrass. His playing blends traditional fiddle drive with contemporary phrasing, helping define the sound of Colorado’s emerging acoustic scene.

Lauren Nershi is a singer songwriter shaped by a lifetime immersed in music. Raised in a home where songs were as constant as conversation, she began by singing and playing various instruments alongside her parents. When she was seven years old, she made her stage debut at the Bowery ballroom in New York City and toured with “Honkytonk Homeslice”.
Lauren attended the Denver School for the Arts as a vocal student during her junior & high school years. Since then, she has performed with “The Nershi Hann Trio” and “The Ghost Town Drifters”.

Having been raised in such close proximity to a vibrant, musical community and constantly surrounded by working musicians, she naturally grew a deep love for storytelling through songwriting. Lauren blends influences from Bluegrass, classic rock, jam bands, outlaw country, and Americana into a sound that feels both rooted and personal.
Her current project is “The Nershis” along with her parents Bill and Jilian. Now,she is able to showcase her own songs as well as her guitar skills and those big family harmonies. “ Their album “Songs For The Road” will be released in 2026 through SCIFidelity Records.
Now, Lauren is carving out her own path marking an exciting new chapter in her evolution as a songwriter and solo performer.

Join us Monday, May 25 at 7:30am for our annual Memorial Day Murph in partnership with Health4Heroes.

Murph is a classic CrossFit workout honoring Michael Murphy, who gave his life in service to our country. The workout—1 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, and another mile run—is meant to challenge both body and mind, but more importantly, to give us a small glimpse into sacrifice, grit, and resilience.

This is not just for elite athletes. Anyone can approach Murph. We’ll help you scale every piece—shorter runs, modified reps, banded movements—so you can show up, move with intention, and be part of something bigger than yourself.

We’re proud to partner with Health4Heroes, an organization dedicated to supporting veterans and first responders through health, fitness, and community. Donations from this event go toward providing resources, programs, and opportunities that improve both physical and mental well-being for those who have served.

This morning is about more than a workout. It’s about honoring, remembering, and coming together as a community to do hard things with purpose. Bring a friend, bring your grit, and let’s show up the right way. 🇺🇸
