I have never been a hat person. From baseball caps to fedoras, none of them have ever really been for me. I have always gravitated toward a headband instead of a hat, but I fear that may all be about to change thanks to Moss Custom Hat Bar.

Ben and I have spent more nights than I would like to admit watching custom cowboy hats being created online. There is something oddly satisfying about the process, and Ben almost always has a hat on anyway. So when we had the opportunity to meet Lauren from Moss Custom Hat Bar, we could not wait to see what the experience of a custom hat bar truly meant in person.
Lauren opened Moss Custom Hat Bar as a way to celebrate beauty, luxury, and individuality. The whole concept is built around creating something that is completely your own. Everyone who creates a hat with her has a unique experience and walks away with something just as unique. No two hats are the same, and that is part of the magic.
We created our hats at their location inside Jessup Farm Artisan Village in Fort Collins, which already feels like the perfect setting for something creative like this. The process was surprisingly detailed in the best way. We were able to pick everything from the color and style of the hat to how it was shaped and steamed to perfectly fit our heads. From there, the fun really started. Charms, ropes, wraps, feathers, bands, and all the things I definitely do not know the proper hat terminology for were laid out in front of us.

There were so many choices that it could easily become overwhelming, but Lauren has clearly mastered the art of guiding people through the process. She helped narrow things down in a way that still felt personal while making sure the final look fit the hat we chose. She even branded a perfect little “H” onto Ben’s hat, which might be my favorite detail of the entire experience.
Honestly, the whole thing felt like a mini vacation in itself. While we do live in what could definitely be described as cowboy country, Western style and cowboy hat culture are not quite as prominent here as they are in places like Nashville or Texas. That is what made this experience feel so fun and unexpected. It felt like we had stumbled into something you would normally travel for, but it was right here in our own backyard.
If you are looking for something different to do, a memorable gift, or an

experience for someone who already seems to have everything, this might be exactly what you are looking for. It is creative, personal, and you leave with something you will actually wear again and again.
Moss has some big events, surprises, and new things in the works for 2026, and you are not going to want to miss what is coming. If you do not already follow along, head to their Instagram and give them a follow. And if you end up creating your own custom hat, be sure to tag us so we can see it.
Because this is NOCO… and in NOCO, you deserve custom.
