Feel the Burn: Find the Vibe- Beatspace Fitness

Updated: Jun 2

There are so many options for working out gyms and fitness classes galore,  that it can feel overwhelming just deciding where to start. Maybe you’re already a regular at a gym in NOCO and want to know what else is out there, or you want us to shout out your gym. Or maybe, like me, you love the idea of hitting a fitness class, but between your schedule and not knowing where to start, you’ve been working out at home with the YouTube stars (shoutout to NourishMoveLove!).

This Is NOCO is here to fill you in on the vibes of workout classes around Northern Colorado. I'm not here to rate them, I'm here to bring you the vibe check.

Maybe you're looking for something that brings you back to your club days (give me hip-hop music and low lighting), or maybe you want to enter a calm space that helps you connect with your body on a deeper level. Or maybe none of that sounds good — you just want to feel like you're working out in someone's garage with the best equipment so you can lift heavy.

No matter what vibe you're looking for, I believe there's a fitness space for you in NOCO, and I’m here to help you find the vibe for you.

🔥 Kicking Off the Series: Beatspace Fitness

To start this series, I tried a brand-new type of fitness class for me honestly, I had never even heard of a rebounder class before. Once I looked it up, I was pretty intimidated to try Beatspace Fitness’s new space.

Beatspace Fitness just opened their location in North Fort Collins on June 1st. They’re located on North College near King Soopers. So if you’re in North Fort Collins, Laporte, or Wellington, this is a great spot for you.

If you’ve also never heard of a rebounder class, imagine one of those tiny trampolines your toddler plays on,  but way more intense. Instead of jumping up, you push down with your heels, staying on beat with the music. While the current rebounders have a 300-pound weight limit, they are exploring options for a wider weight range. They also offer other classes on the floor, including PowerStep, strength-based classes, and yoga.

The music and the beat made all the difference in this class. Once the hip-hop and dance music started, I was hooked. It didn’t feel intimidating at all it felt like you were just dancing and having fun. The owners and instructors make sure you feel that way throughout the entire class.

This class was such a good mix of cardio and strength, using both dumbbells and resistance bands. Combined with the rebounder, you will definitely feel the burn.

Structured by song, the class started with a floor warm-up, followed by a rebounder warm-up (where all the moves are explained, so no stress if you’re new), and then moved into the cardio and strength blocks. In the 45-minute class, we worked through two cardio and two strength sections before finishing with a cool-down.

Now, I historically love to lift heavy weights. So when I picked up those two-pound dumbbells, I thought the strength section would be easy. But let me tell you with the time under tension and keeping the beat the entire time, those two-pounders were no joke.

I also tried the Powerstep class which combines a classic step class with strength. I found this class much more approachable since I did not have to combine the rebounder and the choreography. While this class had more complicated steps than the rebounder class I was able to keep time with the music more easily.

During the strength portion of the power step class bodyweight, resistance bands, and dumbbells are utilized similarly to the power bounce class. There was one addition in the step class which upped the intensity! The Heroboard which looks innocent enough kind of like a mini skateboard, will humble you. This little board is single-handedly going to help me with my goal of having abs, during this class we used the heroboard for planks, glute bridges, and other ab work. Let me tell you, I was shaking!

This class kept the same dance meets workout vibes as the Powerbounce class so it kept me engaged the entire time. The combination moves ensured my mind was not able to wander during the workout I had to focus on the steps.

I can’t wait to try the other classes they’ll be offering in their new space, including Power (strength-focused), and Yoga. So if the rebounder isn’t your thing, definitely check out the rest of their class lineup.

Overall: If you’re looking for an upbeat, energizing workout that balances movement and strength, this is a great fit for you. The owners are welcoming and supportive of all fitness levels and backgrounds — so don’t be intimidated to jump in.
